Schools Sportshall Athletics to restart for 2023
The Donegal Primary Schools Sportshall Athletics programme is to restart after a number of years in abeyance due to the impact of Covid-19. Coordinated by Donegal Sports Partnership, Donegal Athletics County Board, Athletics Ireland and the local Athletics Clubs. A number of Post Primary schools also provide young volunteers to the programme through their transition year student cohort. The Sportshall Athletics is based on a team format and is suitable for children of all abilities with many opportunities to experience athletic disciplines such as running, throwing and jumping which are the fundamentals for movement. Expressions of interest are being sought from Small (<100 pupils) to Medium/Large primary schools (>100 pupils) and will take place in Spring 2023.

TEACHERS INFORMATION WORKSHOP (free) Monday 16th January 2023 (4-6PM), Venue: TBC
Learn how to organise, plan and coordinate your schools Sportshall Athletics Programme in preparation for the Donegal Regional Events. Understand the running/relays and field events and the equipment required for each activity. Examine the rules of entry/team declarations and how the competition is run. PLEASE NOTE: this session is both practical and theory in nature.
KEY DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES:
MEDIUM TO LARGE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME (>100 pupils) Regional Events to be completed by 17th March and County Final will be held in week beginning 27th March 2023 (Venue & Date TBC)
SMALL SCHOOLS PROGRAMME (<100 pupils) Regional Events to be completed by 12th May 2023 and County Final will be held in week beginning 22nd May 2023 (Venue & Date TBC)
PLEASE NOTE: Venues for Regional events will be decided based on the geographical locations of the schools that have expressed an interest. We will make every effort to reduce the travel distance for schools by accommodating them with their closest venue, but cannot guarantee this. *All of these dates are subject to change in the event of venues not being available etc.
