Active Seniors New Age Kurling

New Age Kurling is a form of the Olympic Sport ‘Curling’, but instead of playing on ice, it is adapted so that it can be played indoors on any smooth, flat surface such as sports halls.

Kurling is an inclusive sport, and can be played from a seated or standing position, with the aid of a pusher head and is enjoyed by all ages, but most popular with Older Adults.

It is a target game consisting of 4 blue Kurling stones, 4 red kurling stones and a target mat; the aim is for the players to try and get their kurling stones closest to the centre target; closest to the target once all the stones are thrown, wins the point.

Donegal Sports Partnership have been coordinating a recreational games league since 2014, with 7 Active Retirement groups in the East of the County. With over 120 men & women involved, games are played weekly over 12 consecutive weeks, twice a year. Each team plays each other twice, once at home, once away and they adjudicate their own games. With a huge emphasis on social interaction and fun, the home team always provides the cup of tea after!!
